Wellman Claims Indoor All-American Honors

COMPLETE RESULTS

GAINSEVILLE, Fla.  – Kaleo Wellman made Bushnell history on Friday afternoon as the NAIA Indoor Track & Field National Runner-Up in the Long Jump.

Wellman becomes Bushnell’s first-ever NAIA All-American for Indoor Track & Field, scoring eight points for the Beacons in the process. The sophomore came into the event seeded 16th, but broke his own school record not once, not twice, but three times on his way to a second-place finish.

His final mark was 7.38 meters (24′ 2.5″) and he was moments away from claiming a shocking national title, before Arizona Christian’s Mikhail Brown landed a 7.51m (24′ 7.75″) on his final attempt to win.

With his eight points, Bushnell sits tied for 15th-place at the event. While their placement will undoubtedly drop as the remainder of the championships conclude, it will be the Beacons first time scoring points at the Indoor Championship event.

Next up for the Bushnell track team will be the Erik Anderson Icebreaker event, taking place on Saturday at Linfield University.
