Bushnell University Launches Center for Calling and Community

EUGENE, Ore. – Bushnell University is excited to announce the creation of the Center for Calling and Community, a new initiative designed to unify and amplify the university’s work in ministry training, spiritual formation, and community engagement. Rooted in the university’s vision of fostering faithful followers of Jesus Christ who are dedicated to supporting their communities, the center will launch programming fall 2025.

A collaborative effort between the divisions of academic affairs and student development, the center represents a strategic advancement in Bushnell’s commitment to preparing students for lives of purposeful leadership in the church and the world. Its work will focus on four key areas: ministry training, spiritual formation, community engagement, and strategic growth.

“The Center for Calling and Community embodies the heart of Bushnell University’s mission to develop students formed by wisdom, faith, and service,” shares Bushnell University President Dr. Joseph Womack. “By aligning ministry training, spiritual formation for staff and faculty, and engagement with the wider community, the Center helps us live out our calling as a Christ-centered university in tangible, transformational ways.”

Dr. Agam Iheanyi-Igwe will serve as the center’s director, building upon his role as Associate Dean of Bible, Theology & Ministry programs. Rev. Troy Dean, M.A., will join him as Director of Outreach, while Jennifer Little, M.A., will serve as Campus Minister for Student Formation. Together, they will oversee new and expanded efforts, including enhanced chapel programming, mission trip opportunities, strengthened church partnerships, and innovative collaborations between music and ministry programs.

“This Center is an exciting opportunity to deepen our commitment to nurturing students who not only grow in their faith but are equipped to make a lasting difference in their communities,” said Dr. Iheanyi-Igwe. “We are fostering a community where people discern calling and embrace lives of service marked by both compassion and conviction.”

“The Center is an investment in Bushnell’s ability to positively impact the churches and communities in our region,” shares Dr. Reed Mueller, Vice President for Academic Affairs and Dean of the Faculty. “We are excited about its potential to foster a Christ-centered, beloved community that equips our students to meet the needs of their communities with hearts ready to serve and minds ready for the complex issues of our time.”

By cultivating meaningful local and global partnerships, pursuing grant opportunities, and enhancing pathways into ministry programs, the center will support enrollment growth while expanding the university’s impact both locally and globally.

At its core, the Center for Calling and Community seeks to be a place where students, faculty, and staff are formed in faith, discover their purpose, and are empowered to serve with wisdom and compassion.
