EUGENE, Ore. – For the first time in school history, the Bushnell women’s soccer team has won five straight contests, and for the first time have won six Cascade Conference matches in a season as they came from behind to defeat Corban University on Thursday night, 2-1.
The win was also Bushnell’s first victory over their Willamette Valley rivals in ten years and just the Beacons’ second win in the 21-game history between the schools. The last victory came with a 1-0 win at home on October 2, 2015.
Bushnell (7-3-2, 6-2 CCC), who also tie their single-season win total, dominated the action on Thursday, holding a 21-2 advantage in shots. This is the fourth time the Beacons have won seven games in a season and the first since 2016.
The Warriors (5-8, 2-6) got on the scoreboard first, using a corner kick by Delaney Fiedler, which sailed into the goal mouth as Ana Augusto got her hands on it, just an inch too late. It would be Corban’s only shot-on-goal in the contest.
Trailing at halftime for the first time this month, Bushnell responded well, out-shooting Corban 12-0 in the second half. The Beacons tied things up in the 64th minute as Addy Morgan collected a loose ball just outside the box and fired home the equalizer.
“This game was proof of the pure grit that our team has,” said Morgan. We came back from the first-half goal and proved who we are as a team and I couldn’t be more proud. This team is just incredible and we have everything it takes.
In the 79th minute, it was Ohu Miles (pictured) turn to get in on the action, scoring the game-winner with her third goal of the season. After receiving the ball in the box, she juked around her defender to create an opportunity and scored to the left of the outstretched keeper.
Miles said, “I am so grateful to have played my first full 90 minutes and contributed to our win by scoring a goal. I loved the way everyone went into the second half wanting it more. I believe we came out with this win because every single person on the field worked for it and I am beyond proud to be a Beacon!”
With the win, Bushnell moves into sole possession of second-place in the Cascade Conference. With four games remaining, the Beacons have clinched have clinched at least a .500 record in the CCC for just the second time in school history and are on the verge of clinching a Cascade Collegiate Conference tournament bid.
Head Coach Halle Meadows said, “It was a really short turnaround from last weekend, but we managed to play the full 90 minutes and come back from the early Corban goal. I am proud of how the girls fought and finished out the game.”
UP NEXT: The Beacons will have an eight-day rest before traveling for their final non-conference road games on October 24-25 when they take on Oregon Tech (7-3-2, 3-2-1) and Southern Oregon (8-1-1, 5-0-1).
