Jazzmyne (Jazzy) Villarruel ’14 recently returned to her alma mater as the newest member of the admission team. Jazzy takes a few minutes to reflect on her journey to NCU:
I arrived in Eugene five years ago, around this time of year. I didn’t know a single person and as I stood in the Orientation check-in line I questioned every decision that led me here. Thankfully, I was encouraged to test the waters by incredibly supportive parents. I can say, without doubt, my four years as an NCU student were the most vulnerable and joyful years yet. Here, I was able to dedicate and discover my life in Jesus Christ.
As a member of the admissions team, I have the opportunity to meet with prospective students and share my NCU experience. From working in leadership during my time as a student, I realized that Higher Education is my passion. Dedicated to the mission of serving, NCU exudes just that and more. My hope is for students to grasp the importance of an “education leading to a life of service.” I cannot express how much the opportunities I received as a student changed my heart and attitude towards daily life.
I feel blessed to be working alongside the people who helped and supported me as a student, not only through my education but in my walk with God. I pray that I can be the example they were and continue to be for me.
NCU was my home away from home while I was a student. It feels great to be back. It feels great to be home.
