Renown author and journalist, Andy Crouch, will speak about Creating Culture with students, faculty, staff, and friends of Northwest Christian University (NCU) during a day-long series of on-campus meetings, discussions, symposia, a public reception, and a chapel service on Feb. 24, 2016.
Crouch, the executive editor of Christianity Today (CT), is the author of the widely acclaimed book: Culture Making: Recovering Our Creative Calling, that was named one of the best books of 2008 by CT, Publishers Weekly, Relevant, Outreach and Leadership—as well as receiving accolades in Lecrae’s 2014 single “Non-Fiction.” He is also the author of Playing God: Redeeming the Gift of Power, published in October 2013.
“Andy Crouch is one of the most important authors of our time,” said Joseph D. Womack, Ed.D, president of Northwest Christian University. “I have heard him speak and he will challenge the way we create culture at home, in the workplace, and in the community where we unapologetically and compassionately live Faith.”
Crouch was also the executive producer of CT’s This is Our City, a multi-year project featuring documentary video, reporting, and essays about Christians seeking the flourishing of their cities.
“Culture is changed for the better when we both carefully cultivate the world and when we innovate and create, and for that reason universities are among the most culturally fruitful environments I know,” Crouch said. “I am looking forward to my time at Northwest Christian University and our discussions about the role each of us plays at every stage of our lives—student, faculty, staff, alumni, and the broader network of friends of the university—in shaping culture on campus and in the community around it.”
A member of the governing boards of Fuller Theological Seminary and Equitas Group, a philanthropic organization focused on ending child exploitation in Haiti and Southeast Asia, Crouch is a senior fellow of the International Justice Mission’s IJM Institute. His writing has appeared in Time, The Wall Street Journal, and several editions of Best Christian Writing and Best Spiritual Writing.
Crouch is the former editor-in-chief of re:generation quarterly, a magazine for an emerging generation of culturally creative Christians. For 10 years he was a campus minister with InterVarsity Christian Fellowship at Harvard University. He studied classics at Cornell University and received an M.Div. summa cum laude from Boston University School of Theology.
A classically trained musician who draws on pop, folk, rock, jazz, and gospel, he has led musical worship for congregations of 5 to 20,000. He lives with his family in Swarthmore, Pennsylvania.
Crouch’s campus and community presentations are part of the Grace & Truth Forums presented by NCU’s Center for Leadership & Ethics. For more information about Andy Crouch’s presentations at NCU on Feb. 24, 2106, and to RSVP go to: Center for Leadership & Ethics
