Graduate Counseling Program Receives CACREP Accreditation

Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational ProgramsNorthwest Christian University’s Master of Arts Degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling is now one of the five such institutions in Oregon to receive program accreditation from The Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP), a specialized accrediting body recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA).

“CACREP accreditation places NCU’s Clinical Mental Health Counseling Master’s Degree program among the best in the nation,” said Dennis Lindsay, Dr. Theol., Vice President for Academic Affairs and Dean of the Faculty at NCU. “This important accreditation confirms the academic and professional excellence of NCU’s Clinical Mental Health Counseling faculty and the curriculum they teach to our master’s degree students.”

What CACREP accreditation means to prospective and current students is that the content and quality of the NCU’s M.A. in Clinical Mental Health Counseling has been carefully evaluated and meets stringent standards set by the profession. Students can be assured that appropriate knowledge and skill areas are the basis for a high-quality curriculum and that the program is stable, professionally and financially.
Dr. Lindsay recognized the strong work the faculty and staff invested in the accreditation process that was spearheaded by Dr. Marilyn Montgomery, Professor of Counseling and by Dr. Gene James, Assistant Dean of the Counseling Department.

“Drs. James and Montgomery, with the faculty and staff, did a truly amazing job completing the self-study and preparing for the site visit by the accreditation team,” he said. “The positive comments from the accreditation team were well-deserved.”

CACREP has accredited NCU’s Master of Arts Degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling through March 2025.
