Hannah Garhofer, a former NCU soccer play from Seaside, Oregon, has traded her corner kicks and the pitch for the runway and the talent competition. The 2019-second runner up in the Miss Oregon Pageant will compete with women from the other 49 States for the title of National Sweetheart in the annual pageant held in Hoopeston, Illinois.
“I am proud to represent Oregon in the National Sweetheart Pageant,” Garhofer said. “Competing in pageants offers an opportunity to build awareness about the issues and programs that I believe we should all care about, such as mentoring and understanding that our legacy on this earth is how we treat each other.”
Garhofer has been competing in pageants since she was 13 years old. “I have always been involved in dance and sports, so performing on stage came naturally to me,” she said. “Pageants are an opportunity to talk about and be involved in programs that make our communities, state, and nation a better place for all of us.”
She has competed in the Miss Oregon Pageant five times and has held the title of Sunset Empire Outstanding Teen 2011, Clatsop County Outstanding Teen 2013, Miss North Coast 2015, Miss Clatsop County 2017, Miss Lane County 2018, Miss Tri- Valley 2019 and now Miss Oregon Sweetheart. Garhofer attended NCU from 2015 through 2017.
“I take NCU with me to every pageant,” said Garhofer, who attends Ekklesia non-denominational church in Eugene, Oregon. “I learned so much from Dr. Doyle Srader, my speech professor, who taught me how to become a stronger public speaker.”
Garhofer will compete in the preliminary round of The National Sweetheart Pageant on Aug. 31, 2019. The finals are on Sept. 1, 2019.
