Career Development Goes Virtual

By Angela Doty, director of career development

Whatever the COVID-19 crisis brings, NCU students are getting ready to answer God’s call in their lives. Our career development mission remains the same: to empower and equip individuals to embrace their vocational calling and to engage in opportunities to make meaningful career and life contributions. We will continue to develop purposeful graduates through our initiatives of values clarification, informed decision-making, and relationship development

Adapting to our new reality, the Career Development Office is leveraging technology to share screens, collaborate in the cloud, and communicate more intentionally – all relevant and critical skills for Beacons to develop as they prepare to enter this evolving workforce. As communicated through online appointments, our students have a front row view of the impact this pandemic is having on careers, as many of them are now completing their internship experiences remotely. One student indicated that this “real life lesson” is sticking. “This is a valuable lesson in how to handle tough situations in life and at work.”

These unprecedented times provide an even richer training ground in which to nurture and encourage students. The process may look different than we planned, but the goal is to see wiser, more resilient, and more creative students emerge.
