EUGENE, Ore. —- Northwest Christian University is hosting 16 students from Shiu Pong College at China’s University of Macau from June 28, 2016, through July 12, 2016.

“We are pleased to have the students from the University of Macau living and learning on the NCU campus,” said Joseph Womack, Ed.D., president of Northwest Christian University.  “This is an important opportunity for students and staff from both universities to identify our similarities and understand our differences to gain greater wisdom in our service to our neighbors whether they live across the street or across the world.”

The students from China are living on campus at NCU.  They are taking classes taught by NCU faculty on American culture, English language, English presentation skills, globalization, and intercultural communication.

“Also, the students experienced American life during home-visits with faculty and community members over the 4th of July weekend,” said Dr. Tim Veach, associate professor of business at NCU and coordinator of the program.  “In addition to the classroom experience, and field trips to Crater Lake, Oregon Coast, and other Oregon landmarks, the home-visits offer a true snap-shot of American life and culture that can’t be experienced in a classroom, digitally, or in a book.”

Before returning to the University of Macau, students will give formal presentations to faculty and staff at both universities sharing the more profound differences and similarities between their home country and their experience in Oregon.

The students return to Macau on July 12.  Macau is in Eastern Asia, bordering the South China Sea and China.  It is a Special Administrative Region of the People’s Republic of China.
