Beacons Shining Bright On Campus

Fall AthleitesFor some Beacons, summer vacation is over. Student leaders and student-athletes competing in fall sports have returned to campus to begin training and preparation for the 2016 Fall Semester.

“We bring our resident assistants, student government officers, campus ministry leaders, orientation team members and peer mentors for new students, and student program assistants to campus a few weeks earlier than the rest of the student body for training, prayer, and team building retreats,” said Greg Brock, M.A., Director of Residence Life and Student Services. “Student-Athletes always arrive early to begin team workouts as well as to participate in scrimmages with other teams.”

Student leaders will participate in seminars to review university policies, including gaining an understanding of Title IX requirements.

The women’s volleyball team begins the season with a game against the Alumni on Mon. Aug. 15, in the Morse Event Center at 7 pm.  The men’s and women’s soccer teams play their respective Alumni squads on Sat., Aug. 25, at Willamalane in Springfield, Ore., beginning at 5 p.m.  For more information about these games, and all Beacon athletics, go to www.gobeacons.com.

In addition, members of The Grove Collective musical performance group will go on a retreat from Fri., Aug. 20 through Mon., Aug. 22.

All other undergraduate students will arrive on campus on Sat., Aug. 27, with classes beginning on Weds., Aug. 31.
