Forty-five students, mentors, and advisory board members participating in Northwest Christian University’s Center for Leadership & Ethics mentorship program met for an end of the school year luncheon on Wed., April 12, 2017, in the Burke-Griffeth Banquet Room.
Students were paired with community leaders who served as mentors to discuss school, careers, faith, and topics of the day. Twenty students and their mentors met regularly throughout the school year.
“Having a mentor is so valuable,” said McKenzie Hinson ‘17, a senior communications major from Springfield, Oregon. “I am thankful for the time my mentor, Mark Turchetto, the director of sales at the Phoenix Inn, spent with me to help provide context for the information I was learning in class and to be a ‘sounding board’ for ideas about careers and life.”
“I am honored to work with so many intelligent and interesting students,” said Mitch Hagstrom, executive vice president/chief banking officer, Pacific Continental Bank. “Mentors were not readily available to students when I was in school. So for me, being a mentor is an important way to give back to the community, particularly during a time when these motivated young people are transitioning from the classroom to the professional world.”
Established in 2005, the mission of NCU’s Center for Leadership & Ethics is to equip and inspire ethical leaders by providing faith-integrated mentoring for students and alumni.
