Alexa Parks

Program: Clinical Mental Health Counseling

What inspired you to further your education in the counseling field?

My entire life I have been told that I feel things too intensely, and I want to give voice to the positives of being an empath. Growing up, I struggled with my own mental health. I never recognized the true power of counseling/therapy until I was in my last term of my undergrad and met Dan. Dan not only changed, but saved my life as well. I want to pay it forward and become a Dan for someone else. Everyone deserves to know and feel that they have someone in their corner, and I hope to provide that feeling of comfort for my future clients.

What impact do you hope to have on the world by pursuing counseling?

I hope to provide a safe environment for people to feel and process, without having to worry about being judged.

What excites you most about your field of study?

I am most excited about providing people with the knowledge of how to develop healthy coping mechanisms, communication, and relationships.

The impact I want to have on my field of study is to establish a role in ensuring the well-being and development of athletes. Whether it includes managing contracts or providing resources for player development. Aiming to make a positive difference in the world of sports and in the community they serve is important for me to achieve.

What excites you most about the sports management field?

I am most excited about sports management because of my genuine love for sports. Working in an industry that revolves around something I am passionate about can be highly motivating. The opportunity to shape the future of the sports industry is a major source of excitement.
