Students Present at ACE Day

EUGENE, Ore. — Academic Creativity and Excellence Day, known as ACE Day, was established on campus by Dr. Tim Bergquist, emeritus professor of quantitative business models. It serves as Bushnell University’s semi-annual research colloquium for graduating students to present their capstone research projects and for other students to showcase research from individual classes. On Wednesday, May 1, 2024, nearly 90 students showcased their capstone or end-of-term projects to faculty, staff, and fellow students on campus.

“At Bushnell, we cheer for our athletes, we gather for worship, and we form satisfying relationships. But more fundamentally than any of those things, we learn, and on ACE Day we celebrate what students have learned,” said Doyle Srader, Ph.D., professor of speech and communications and organizer of ACE Day.

Presenters offered brief overviews of their projects or research and then welcomed attendees to engage in discussions. Presentation styles encompassed lectures, posters, panel discussions, symposiums, exhibitions, and various other innovative formats.

For Spring 2024, two sessions were competitive and produced winners. Professor Christy Silverthorne’s students from Marketing 432, Branding, Advertising and Promotions, worked on marketing campaigns for the Cottage Grove Humane Society. The prize winners were:

Visitor’s Choice Award: Jessica Woods, Luke Smith, Amanda Sisul
Client’s Choice Award: Dina Hayes, Walter Reustle, Eric Ponce
Best Campaign Award: John Stephens, Samuel Morehouse, Emma Skaggs, Jayden Soriano

Across the quad, students in Biology, Communication and Education classes presented their research projects in a judged poster exhibit. The winners were:

3rd place, 78 points out of a possible 84, tie: Sadie Chase and Annika Poet
2nd place, 79 points, Bethany Struthers
